Sorry about the delays. I've been preoccupied getting set for the Stumptown Comics Fest.

020: Tony Jaa vs. Rollerboys

A reinterpretation of this scene.

018: Phoenix
A new post! Sorry about making the updates so sporadic lately. I've been feeling kind of crazy, and I didn't want to let that get in the way of my drawing routine, but... yeah.
I'm trying to rededicate myself to daily posting from here on. I'm crossing my fingers at least.
Anyway, this sketch is for my buddy Tyler. I know he's been wanting to see a drawing of Dark Phoenix, so here you are, pally:
Also, I've decided to remove the Suggestion Box from the sidebar for the time being. Nobody has been using it, so I figure why let it take up space? Maybe sometime I'll try to bring it back again in the future, but I'll be relying on my own braingears in the meantime.

013: Wrassler's Progress, The Sequel
As mentioned in the last post, here are my inks on marker paper laid over my pencils.
... and the scanned inks laid into the strip layout. The gray shape is a background element I drew in since it's not defined by any linework. It should look nicer when I'm done with the toning.EDIT: Here's the finished strip.

Yeah... love. Bleh. Plus these "talky" scenes are harshing my action boner. I hope the next artist draws one of these dudes punching the other in the face.

012: Wrassler's Progress

I have another strip due at the Wrestling Theatre
jam. The odd size requirements of the strips has led me to develop a system of drawing that I rarely employ for my other comix work. I start off by creating a 720 x 300 pixel image in Photoshop, then enlarge it to 300 ppi. If it's a complicated layout (as I've chosen with this comic. hooray!), I'll work out text placement and draw a rough sketch of the characters and panels directly on the computer (img. 1). Once I'm satisfied, I print this out and do refined pencils over my layout (img. 2).
That's as far as I got tonight. The next step will be to put a transparent sheet of marker paper over the pencils and do my inks on that. Then I'll scan the inks and plop them on top of the layout I've already created. I'll finalize any word balloons and panel borders, and if I want to,
add some grayscale coloring. But all that will be for tomorrow. So stay tuned for more comix hijinx.
